Brunch Ideas and Life Update

Hello internet! Wow, it’s been a while, almost 3 years to be exact! As the title above says, I’m going to give you some quick, easy, and super Instagram worthy brunch ideas and of course let you know where the heck I’ve been! This is probably going to be a long, somewhat depressing (possibly inspiring?) post, so grab a snack, we’re going to be here a while.

Easy, Breezy, Brunch.

The other day I threw a cute lil brunch for a couple of my friends and I thought it would be a great way to showcase my hosting skillz.

I started off with the staple of brunch…no, not mimosas….DONUTS. Not just any donuts, I went with my favorite, donut holes! I’m not quite Rachel Ray status, so I did not make the donuts. I got them from a local donut shop around the corner from my house and they are magical.

The donuts were light and fluffy so I wanted to complement the taste and texture with something fresh so I went with strawberries and thus, the donut/strawberry kebab was born! I’m just kidding, I totally found this idea on Pinterest, but it’s super quick and muy delicioso!

I actually got more donut holes than I needed so I had 2 options, either eat the rest before my friends came over or use them in my brunch in some other way (yes, those were my only 2 options, don’t question me). Anyways, I thought to myself, “Oh hey Sherilyn, you have all these berries in your fridge from that one time you said you were going to use them for breakfast smoothies (that you never made),” so I just threw them on the serving tray with the donuts and VOILA! Twas a tray worthy of any Instagram foodie’s dream.

To keep the light and airy theme going, I wanted to add something that was healthy and sustaining. I wanted to keep my guests from reaching hangry level, but also not put them in a food coma with something heavy. I decided to make avocado toast with sliced hard boiled eggs!

All I did was blend avocado, olive oil, and a pinch of salt. Once that turned to creamy goodness, I spread it on some slices of Dave’s Killer Bread (aka best bread EVER). I cut 3 hard boiled eggs with one of those cool egg slicer things and added them on top of the bread.

I topped off the brunch spread with a build-your-own yogurt parfait in mason jars (because who doesn’t love mason jars? I got them from Bed, Bath, and Beyond if you were wondering) with berries, granola, and honey. And what is brunch without mimosas?! I wanted my guests to have a variety of mimosa choices so I had 4 different juices to mix. I also added those adorable tulips and daffodils to spruce it up. A few of the daffodils couldn’t fit in the vase, so I cut the stems off and added them to the serving trays for a nice little Instagramesque touch.

This whole set up fed 4 people and there were definitely leftovers.

^ I hope you sang that in your head like I did ;P

Ok, so I’m not going to give you some lame excuse about how my life just got too busy and I didn’t have the time to keep up with my blog, because that’s not true. I had plenty of time and pretty cool places to take pictures of OOTDs, I mean I lived in the Bay Area!

The truth is, I was really depressed. Even though Instagram and Facebook show all the happy parts of my life, they don’t show you what goes on behind it all.

I used to be one of those people that saw depression as a choice and as a sign of weakness, until it happened to me. There were days I would cancel plans with friends because I physically just couldn’t leave the house, I would stay in bed and sleep all day, and I would lash out at my boyfriend and say hurtful things to him for no reason. I constantly felt like my life was never going to get better than it was and that I was always going to have a mediocre life.

Shash (my boyfriend if you didn’t remember who that is) and I decided to leave the Bay Area and move to San Diego. We needed a fresh start.

In the beginning, it was hard and even to this day I’m still working on myself. There are absolutely days where I feel like I can’t leave my house or even get out of bed, but I make myself get up and do things. Shash and I got a puppy, Bodhi, and even though he’s a pain, he definitely helps make my depression and anxiety a lot easier to handle. I’m responsible for him, I have to make sure he’s taken out to go to the bathroom and getting walks.

I know I still have a long way to go, but I have the greatest support team ever; my family, an amazing boyfriend who loves me unconditionally, a great group of friends, and I have a new outlook on life. I’m doing more now than I ever did. I’m cooking, exercising, and making healthier life choices. I’m even starting my own social media agency 😉 (look out for that in the future). I’m going to take control of my life and be as happy and healthy as I can. If you’re ever feeling down or just need someone to talk to, let me know and we’ll talk it out! I’m always here to listen 🙂

I hope this wasn’t too long and drawn out, but I wanted to let you guys know what’s been going on. ANYWAYS, look out for more posts because I’m back baby!

See you soon!
