Color Blocked

First OOTD back on the blog! SO exciting!! Around La Jolla, there are murals like these by local artists. This one in particular is called “Favorite Color” by Roy McMakin.

I don’t usually walk around looking this fancy, but I actually had a meeting with a recruiter earlier that day so I needed to look like a well put together grown up. Why did I have a meeting with a recruiter you ask? I’m looking for another job. My mom always says I will never be happy with any job that I’m at and sometimes I feel that way, but I think I just need to find the right company (or start my own ;P).

You spend your entire adolescent life in school preparing for your future career, but they never really tell you what happens after. It’s get good grades, then get into a good college, and don’t worry you’ll get a good-paying job because you’ve done everything that you were supposed to do. WRONG. Most don’t even get a job right out of college and all the stress that comes with that. I’ve learned that just because you think you’ve done everything right, that doesn’t mean everything will work out.

Once you do get a job, they don’t tell you that you’ll get laid off, not just once, but a few times and it’s not your fault, it happens to everyone. Again, you could be doing everything right and working your hardest, but sometimes things just don’t work out the way you planned. You might even get fired! Ok, that actually might be your fault though, let’s be real.

I have this intense fear of not being successful and not being happy where I’m at. I’m constantly at war with myself because I want to start my own business, but I also need stability in my career and there’s so much uncertainty that comes with starting a business. I don’t enjoy working for other people who don’t know what they’re doing and I have worked for A LOT of people like that. I would rather be my own boss and have complete freedom, but that’s scary as hell.

I guess the takeaway of all this is, “it’s ok.” It’s ok to feel stressed out about the future, it’s ok to not know what you want to do, it’s ok that you just got let go or fired, and it’s ok to be afraid of going after your dream. It’s all ok because eventually, you’ll find what you’re looking for.

Ok, I promise not all my posts now are going to be semi-depressing, but life isn’t always bright colorful walls and cute outfits damn it! I want this blog to be a real representation of life and I go through different feelings every day. So if you’re ready and willing, you’re more than welcome to come along on my journey with all of its ups and downs.
